Inquirehire Celebrates 10 Years in Business

 

Davenport, Iowa - January 12, 2006 - Inquirehire, a division of James M. Sweeney and Associates, Inc., celebrates its tenth year of operation in 2006. Inquirehire provides background screening services that help organizations minimize the risk of making a bad hiring decision. Background screening services includes identity verification, criminal background checks, education and employment verification, credit reports, driving records, drug testing, and job skill assessments.

The Inquirehire division was launched by Jim Sweeney in 1996 as preventative strategy for businesses, government, and non-profit organizations. According to Jim Sweeney, both the problem and the solution were obvious. "In our investigation division we frequently found examples of repeat offenders with criminal records. If the employer could identify those individuals whose past behavior represented a risk of future workplace misconduct, many problem situations could be avoided."

Since 1996 Inquirehire has grown from a home-based business, to become a national operation serving hundreds of client organizations throughout the United States. The investigative work is done in the corporate headquarters in downtown Davenport by investigative researchers who have access to criminal records, sex offender registries, credit reports, and driving records. The practice of background screening is regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which is a federal law enacted in 1996. Under the act, employers may conduct background investigations for applicants if they have a legitimate business reason and follow certain rules. The act also stipulates certain rights for applicants.
